Some Common Conditions Treated by Ultra-Violet Radiations
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper I have chosen some diseases and conditions which can be greatly benefited by the use of ultra-violet light. In writing these notes I have dealt with each subject from three points of view, viz : (1) the rationale of the use of the ultra-violet rays; (2) the available authoritative literature on the subject; and (3) the technique in detail. The following ten conditions will now be dealt with: abscesses, adenitis, pruritus ani and vulvae, common colds, sycosis, lupus erythematosus, pregnancy and lactation, herpes, alopecia and acne vulgaris.

Definite research for the causative factors in the nutritional disturbance known as rickets was begun by various observations as to its distribution and occurrence. In 1890 T. A. Palm (1) showed by a geographical survey that lack of sunlight seemed to be one of the chief factors in the causation of rickets. This led to the use of the sun bath in the treatment of rachitic children. In 1914 Rolli...

Effects of decreased ozone and increased UV radiation have been studied by many researchers. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of UV-B and UV-C radiations on Melissa Officinalis L and to study the Impact of salicylic acid in reducing the harmful effects of radiation on plants. The Melissa Officinalis L plants were treated with 28_+2 ºC temperature for about 60 days. The light...
متن کاملThe Effect of Radiations from a Mercury Arc in Quartz on Enzymes
Amylase in solution is inactivated by the radiations from a mercury arc in quartz, in a manner similar to that previously reported for pepsin. The reaction was followed to a point where more than 88 per cent change had taken place, the course being that of mono-molecular radiochemical change. Apparently, this reaction is due to the influence of ultra-violet radiation alone.
